Spam and Virus Information

VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE READ (5/6/08)

It is happening again only in a very convincing and affective way. Someone is sending email that appears to be from the email address support@wcnet.org. When you reply to the email it goes to a totally different domain and address. This email asks for personal information regarding your account, including your password and your date of birth. WCNet will never ask for that information to be emailed to us, we already have the information and will not need to ask for it again. If you have replied to this email please contact the WCNet help desk immediately (help@wcnet.org) to determine what can be done to protect your account. In this day of identity theft, it is not wrong to question everything that appears to come from WCNet. If we need to contact you we will do so in a way that will not jeopardize your personal information. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in matters such as this.

The Staff at WCNet.org

Your Password has not been reset and your Account has not been suspended!

If your account had been suspended or your password changed, you would not have received the email in the first place. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we combat these viruses and spammers. For more information regarding this read some of the articles and links below.

What is Spam and How Do I Avoid It?

Spam activity has been on the rise lately due to the fact that spammers are constantly updating their methods.
The latest is that they include their message in an image that is imbedded in the email.
This allows their message to get through many spam filters that look for certain spam related text.
Anti-spam vendors are working on solutions but it will take time.

What is Phishing?

If you have received an email from any financial institution or companies such as eBay requesting your account information through email. You have been Phished!

If you have an account with any business regarding finances, they already have your personal information and will never request the information by email or online. Someone is trying to get your information to steal your money, credit or your identity. If you have a question about this contact the organization that you supposedly received the email from before doing anything. You will probably find out that the email is a scam.

For more information regarding Phishing, check out this site:

From time to time an email comes out claiming to have a fix for a specific virus attached to it.
These warnings sometimes contain the following footer:

*-* http://www.wcnet.org

WCNet will never add a signature at the bottom of any email that goes through our server!

No legitimate company (WCNet, Microsoft, Norton, McAfee, etc)
will ever send you a virus or worm fix as an attachment!

If you want an update from Microsoft go to the link above.
If you want virus protection updates, go to one of the links listed below.
NEVER open attachments that claim to be Virus or Worm fixes!
