Everything That I Love

She smiled and said:
I think you're lucky
You haven't got much but you've got a lot
You started with nothing and now look at you
You are everything that I love.
I've seen some people go from rags to riches overnight
Some have handled it well while others
They drowned in the glory, couldn't stay afloat
You don't want much when you could have more
I know that most people don't understand you
You are quietly courageous
You have a secret strength
You brain works like a computer
Nothing ever seems to upset you
And you treat me with respect.
She smiled and said: I think I'm lucky
To be able to share my life with you
I've tried to be victorious but you haven't lost
You are everything that I love.
I watched you rise like the sun
And then I waited for you to set
I thought you'd go out in a blaze of glory
But it didn't happen, they all asked why
By then I had grown to understand
You don't want the spotlight
You can't stand the applause
You came and went without a word
When it was all over you looked at me
And smiled, saying: Well at least I tried.
She smiled and said: you've got fame
But it never carried you away from your beginnings
And you always remembered those you cared for
You are everything that I love.
