NUTRITION

Recently the media has bombarded us with facts about health foods. So we are not going into a lengthy discussion about nutrition. But, simply put, food is the body's fuel. If you feed your body "bad fuel", your body will not preform at it's best level. So eat good food! Some suggestions:

1. Since your parents provide your food, you should talk to them about the kinds of foods you need to eat.

2. The major part of your diet (60%) should be carbohydrates. Examples: fruits, vegetables, breads, cereals, spaghetti, rice, beans, beagles, crackers, etc.

3. Cut down on your fat intake, like fried foods (McDonald's fries, hamburgers, etc.)

4. Girls should get plenty of calcium (milk products).

5. Drink plenty of water.

6. Just eat a balanced diet.(Everyone needs iron in their diet)

7. It is very important that you consume carbohydrates within 45 minutes of a hard workout.

8. Bring a banana, apple, gram crackers, bagel, fruit juice, etc. to eat after practice. This will replenish needed calories and help you to recover quicker.
