Candidate John Kohl
Seeking Re-election to Wood County Sheriff

Wood County Sheriff John Kohl is seeking his second term as Wood County Sheriff.

Kohl is a lifelong resident of Wood County and resides in Perrysburg Township. During his first term as sheriff, Kohl has instituted a county-wide D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in local schools which has grown to include two full-time deputies. Kohl has also formed a quick-reaction Special Response Team (SRT) and has expanded and upgraded the Litter Control program at the Wood County Justice Center.

Kohl's career in law enforcement began in the Army in 1967 when he was trained as a military policeman. In 1968, he served a tour of duty in Vietnam as a sergeant with the 716th MP Battalion where he saw action in Saigon during the 1968 TET Offensive. While in the Army, Kohl was awarded the Army Commendation Medal as well as the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His civilian law enforcement career began with the Wood County Sheriff's Office in 1970 when he was appointed Deputy Sheriff. In l973, Kohl joined the Perrysburg Township Police Department where he served as a lieutenant until he was elected sheriff in November 1992. He is a graduate of Perrysburg High School and the son of the late Howard and Anna Mae Kohl and the brother of Dale and Robert Kohl and Alice Brown.
