![]() Marlene K. Norton of Bowling Green, a certified public accountant, has announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Wood County Treasurer. "The citizens of Wood County have the right to expect that the person they choose as their next county treasurer is not only the most professionally qualified, but also committed to serving the full term of office which he or she seeks," she said. "I pledge that I will work hard and give them their money's worth for the full four year term. I will neither retire, seek other office, nor will I engage in the all-too-common courthouse game of political musical chairs. I confidently urge the voters to compare our respective professional qualifications. And I challenge the incumbent who is seeking re-election to make the same commitment of a full-term service to the voters of Wood County.'' Norton is a partner in the Bowling Green accounting firm of Norton & Petzwitz Inc. She has 21 years of public accounting experience. Her clientele have included a wide variety of businesses, corporations, non-profit organizations, and individuals. Her accounting and tax experience include local, national and international reporting agencies. She has computer expertise in a wide variety of hardware and software systems. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Ohio Society of Certified Accountants and its Toledo Chapter. She chaired the Tax Committee and Management of Accounting Practice Committee for the Toledo Chapter. She also was on the Ohio Society of CPA's State Committee on the Management of Accounting Practice. Mrs. Norton served on the Owens Technical College Board of Trustees where she chaired its charitable trust. She was a member of the Ohio Technical College and Community College Trustees and the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges. During her term as chair of the Board of Trustees, Owens became a state community college, raised significant moneys to build a library, broke ground on three new buildings including the Regional Law Enforcement Center. She also helped found the statewide Ohio Community College Association and serves on its executive committee. She has been a board member of the Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio and chaired its finance committee. She also served as a member of the Board of the Private Industry Council serving Wood and Lucas Counties. Mrs. Norton is a graduate of BG GS with a masters degree in Accountancy. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Business. She has two adult children, Thane and Elena. |
