Oscars and what they eat*

Earthworms
Feeder fish** (but take precautions, feeder fish often have diseases and parasites that can make your Oscar sick, or even kill it).
vegetables
crickets and other bugs
store-bought Cichlid pellets

* Also, Oscars need a variety of food to be healthy fishies. Sometimes, an Oscar will get hooked on a food and not eat any other kind of food. Oscars, if previously fed well, will not die if they don't eat for two days while you get them to eat a different kind of food than they are used to.

** If you plan on feeding your Oscar feeder fish, you may want to quarantine the feeders for a week or two. Remember, what ever the feeder fish has, your beloved Oscar can also get. Also, be very hesitant to add the feeders' water even to your quarantine tank. Treat the feeders like your important fish and change the temperature slowly, and slowly add your quarantine tank water, then net them and put them in the quarantine tank. That way, they aren't just dying because of the suden temperature or pH change.
