Religious Education

The Unitarian Universalist Principles (kids' version)

We believe...
...that each and every person is important.
...that all people should be treated fairly and kindly.
...that we should accept one another and keep on learning together.
...that each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life.
...that all persons should have a vote about the things that concern them.
...in working together for a peaceful, fair, and free world.
...in caring for our planet earth, the home we share with all living things.

Our church is a community of individuals who are each different in many ways. What holds us together as a group are our common principles and purposes. Winnie Rex leading an RE sessionIn our Religious Education (RE) program, we focus on Unitarian Universalist principles and what it means to be part of our liberal religious movement. We do so through both traditional and experiential learning models. Our goals are to teach our children to articulate who they are and what they believe as Unitarian Universalists, and then to apply that to our daily decision making.

We hope to provide opportunities for learners to develop for themselves a belief system that includes a strong and positive sense of self-worth and the worth of others; a sense of spirituality that allows their religion to grow with them and support them in the joys and tragedies they will encounter; a feeling of community, not only within our local congregation but also within our district and national communities; an understanding of the religious mythos within our culture and around the world.

MVUUC has an RE program coordinated by a part-time volunteer from the church. Programming is designed for children ages three and up, and meets from 11-12 every Sunday morning. Grades one, two, and three, in the Around the Church, Around the Year program.
