Scallop Edge

VINTAGE SCALLOP EDGE

Trim a pillowcase with this beautiful edging!

Row One:
*R: 4-4-4-4. rw
C: 4-3-3-4 rw
R: 4+ (join to last p of prev. R) 4-4-4. rw
C: 4-3-3-4 rw
R: 4+ (join to last p of prev. R) 4-4-4. rw
C: 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 rw
R: 4-4+ (join to middle p of prev. R) 4-4. rw
C: 4-3-3-4 rw
R: 4+ (join to last p of prev. R) 4+ (join to middle p of opposite R) 4-4. rw
C: 4-3-3-4 rw R: 4+ (join to last p of prev. R) 4+ (join to middle p of opposite R) 4-4.
C: 4-3-3-3-3-4 *

Repeat from * to *, joining first 2 chains of second scallop by middle picot, to middle picot of last 2 chains of first scallop, until you reach your
desired length. If it is desired to use the border for a round doily or centerpiece, do not join the lower picots, thus allowing more of the scallops. This pattern makes a very pretty trim for a luncheon-set, using it as shown for the service-doily; making it narrower by 1 ring through the middle of scallop for the next smaller size, (for bread-and-butter plate); and for the smallest, a little edge of alternate rings and chains.

Row Two:

R: 3-3+ (join to 1st p of 1st R of scallop) 5+ (join to last p of 6th R of same scallop) 3-3. rw
C: 4-4-4-4+ (join to middle p of C between scallops) 4-4-4-4 rw
Repeat the row to length required.
