Pondering Thought by Martha Willey updated 12/21/2008

Frog Pondering

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. Ephesians 5:8 NIV

What does light do?
It guides, gives us a sense of comfort, exposes danger, and leads the way.
Darkness does the opposite.
It hides the dangers, obscures the path, and turns our thoughts into thinking that opposes the things of God.

We are told in Matthew 5:14, "You are the light of the world." How can we achieve this? We need to turn away from the complaining, gossiping, bitterness, grudge holding, pride, and self-reliance that keep us in the dark. Instead we should be reflecting the opposite of darkness. Speaking encouraging words, having hope, praising God, forgiving, being humble, and trusting are qualities that should be shining forth.

When Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" (NIV), He's telling us that our actions should cause others to think of God.

So before we respond to a situation, speak to someone, or make a decision, let's pause for a moment and think, am I about to reflect darkness, or am I going to shine like a light for God?

"Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous and how well I know it." Psalm 139:14

"Women of the Word" (WOW) is a terrific way to encourage adult women of all ages to build lasting relationships with each other and, more importantly, to strengthen their relationship with God.

A special thank you to Martha Willey for her work (and to those who contributed) in putting together our "WOW Times" each month.

Women of the Word Background

"Women of the Word" is a ministry to women of any age. Our goal is to enable women to minister in an atmosphere that encourages developing relationships with other women, instruction in God's Word, winning the lost, service in church ministry, community, and meeting the needs of our missionaries through participation in various projects and offerings.

We meet the first Monday of each month, usually in a designated home.

Women Visitng

We participate in enouraging each other through the "Secret Sister" program as well as encouraging the young ladies by participating as a "Big Sister".

At the end of the year, we celebrate with a Christmas party combining all three programs.
