Court
of Honor Troop 344 will
be holding a Court of Honor on March 8, 2003 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pemberville. Dinner will begin at 6:00PM. The Meyer's and McKibben's will be providing meat
sandwiches, a potato dish, and cake. Scouts with last names beginning with A through
O'Brien should plan on bringing a main dish. Oberhouse through Z should bring a salad or
dessert. Since several distinguished guests
will be in attendance for the Court of Honor we ask that families keep this in mind as
they prepare their dishes for the potluck. Families
should bring their own service. Drinks will
be provided by the Troop. Upon completion of
the meal, we will hold a troop ceremony to present members with their rank advancement,
merit badges, and awards. Approximately
7:00PM we will be having a special ceremony to honor Aaron Meyer and Ryan McKibben for
receiving the rank of Eagle. Troop 344 is
proud to add these scouts to our list of Eagle Scouts.
Please
mark your calendars and plan on attending this award ceremony to help recognize the
outstanding achievement of our scouts, especially these two scouts receiving their Eagles. Lake Cumberland High Adventure The troop voted to go to Lake Cumberland area in Kentucky for their high adventure during the summer of 2003. We are planning on camping at Mammoth Cave National Park for 3 days and renting houseboats for 4 days. We will be hiking and taking cave tours at Mammoth Cave National Park. The time on the houseboats will be spent in swimming, fishing, and waterskiing/tubing. The scouts will have an opportunity to earn the water skiing and motorboating merit badges. To participate in this high adventure, a scout must be 1st class and have the swimming merit badge. In May, we will begin a safe boating course. Upon completion of the course, the scouts will take the test provided by the State of Ohio. Passage of this test is required of anyone born after 1982 in order for them to operate a motorboat or personal watercraft. Any parents who would like to participate are also welcome. This course is required for the motor boating merit badge. We ask that you
go over your scouts individual history on a regular basis and continue urging him to
make progress. The younger scouts can come prepared to any meeting ready to check off
on their tenderfoot, second class, or first class requirements. We have several older scouts and adults in
attendance that can accommodate them. Participation in troop outings can help as
advancement opportunities are built into these events.
Some activities the troop has planned do have a rank requirement and working
on advancement continuously will help ensure the scouts ability to participate. The
key point is that the scout must want to advance. We
provide the opportunities for advancement; the scout must take the initiative. Upcoming Events of Note Please check the troop
calendar.
