by reaching out to our family, friends and others we meet in Wayne, the

We will strive to be a loving and safe place to gather, and

Greetings
in the Name of Jesus!
As this letter comes to you this month, we have just come to the
conclusion of our Vacation Bible School here at the Wayne United
Methodist Church.More
During the week of July 22
- 29th, we had our High Sea’s Expedition Vacation Bible
School and it was an exciting and fun filled time. We
learned, in many different ways, that God loves us. We sang
songs, played games and got wet, made crafts, ate some tasty
treats and heard stories about how God’s word is true,
comforting, surprising, life changing and for everyone. We
had a Bible buddy each day to help take us on this
expedition! The children could not wait each day to find out
who was the next Buddy that was about to debut.
During
the week as many had heard, we also began collecting money
for our mission project. We collected money all week to go
towards The Cocoon Shelter of Bowling Green, OH. This is a
shelter that provides emergency housing for battered women
and children. As an incentive to the children, Pastor Mark
agreed that if the children raise $200.00 in the five days
of V.B.S., he will allow a pie to be thrown in his face. As
more incentive to the children, we had a competition between
the classes and the grade with the most money collected gets
to choose someone to put the pie in his face. I’m sure that
you can imagine their excitement- both for bringing in money
for the cause as well as putting a pie in Pastor Mark’s
face. Since the children were close to their goal on the
third day, we increased the incentive a little. We told them
that
if
they raised $250.00, then each class gets to have a
representative put a pie in Pastor Mark’s face: a total of 4
pies!! As you can guess, by the end of the fifth day, the
children had met that goal and even surpassed it to bring in
a total collection of $357.61!
Now
I'm sure that you can imagine the excitement that was in the
sanctuary on July 29th at around 8:00 PM as the pie smashing
ceremony began. Each class got to choose a representative
from their group and that person got to put a pie in Pastor
Mark's face. He was a mess as you can see from the pictures
but he said "It was well worth every bit of it and I'll do
it again too!".
We would like
to thank every person that helped to make our VBS a great
success. From the person that donated items or money to the
people that were there everyday doing all of the work. With
out your help, our High Seas Expedition would not have been
a success. We do hope that you will consider helping again
next year!
Weather Cancellations
Let it snow! Let it snow! . . . But if it gets too bad, will we
cancel church? The policy adopted in 1999 by Administrative Board
is that church will be cancelled if the condition of the building,
walkways or parking lot is unsafe. (i.e., no electric, no heat, ice
covered/dangers, etc.) The Administrative Board Chair, Pastor,
Trustee Chair and Winter Groundskeeper would confer and make the
decision to close at which time the appropriate radio and T.V.
stations would be contacted.
In case of bad weather, unsafe
driving conditions and/or snow emergencies, we trust that people
will use good sense in making a decision about coming to church. †
