Psalm 96:12 Let the fields and their crops burst forth with
joy! Let the trees of the forest rustle with praise before the Lord!”
There is no doubt about it; spring is one of my
favorite times of year! I love seeing the changes that happen in
nature around me almost as I watch! Yesterday Katie came home from
school, burst in the door and shouted, “Oh my gosh, Mom! The trees that
didn’t have any flowers on them at all this morning have full-on flowers
on them now!” Ah, the exuberance of youth! Have you noticed the
flowering trees on Main St. in Wayne? It’s so much fun to watch the
earth come alive with the beauty that is all around us! Bulbs are
coming up, plants are emerging, the farmers are beginning to work in the
fields. What a joyful time of year it is.
In Psalm 96, the palmist writes: “Let the fields
and their crops burst forth with joy! Let the trees of the forest
rustle with praise before the Lord!” The psalmist knew what it was
to see the fields rejoicing and to see the trees just breaking forth in
praise. I love how the New Living Translation puts that last part about
the trees! Next time you see a tree “rustling” in the breeze, think of
this verse in Psalm 96…that tree is doing a praise dance
to our God!
When we look around and see what’s happening in the
Spring it truly is as if the earth is coming alive and praising God for
all of its beauty for God truly is our creator. God is the one who has
created the earth and all that is in it and on it. So, enjoy the
spring! Go for a drive (a short one, with gas prices where they are!)
Go for a walk down the street! And, while you’re riding around, or
going on a walk…wherever your life takes you this spring, give thanks to
God for the beauty of this season. Give thanks to God for all that’s
been created for us to enjoy. Give glory to God and rejoice! Spring is
here! †
